What my teacher should know...

2020 has thrown many curveballs at teachers and schools. In times like this, it is especially important to learn about and get to know your students on a personal level. At the beginning of each school year (and throughout the year), I do many team building, community building, and getting to know you activities. This creates such a loving, family environment within my classroom. Creating a bond in my classroom is definitely one of my strengths as a teacher. I create student-student relationships and teacher-student relationships. I was excited to do the getting to know you activity announced in the previous learning session. This activity did leave with me with more to think about…Here is my experience… I did the “what my teacher should know” warm up activity with my class during the month of October.  I thought this activity would have given me more deep, internal type answers but my students gave me very random thoughts. Their thoughts include “I wish my teacher knew my brother and sister” or “my favorite color is green.” I feel like this activity would have been more beneficial and given me more insight if I had done it in the first few days of the school year. I also feel that I should have creating a better environment for this type of activity. I could have started this activity with a read-aloud or with an example.
