Making Three Word Essays Work for the Common Core
Keia Pannel’s resource, Thinking about Their Lives in Three Words, had me intrigued. Watching her students, hearing her talk about the experience, and then reading the resource she created here about the experience made me want to share what she’d done with teachers in our Writing Project site’s partner schools. Around the same time, one of our elementary partner schools asked for model lessons on Common Core Standard W.1, persuasive writing. I wanted to show the teachers some images of possibilitiy for composing persusive texts beyond traditional paper and pencil essays. Three Word essays seemed like a perfect fit.
