Captured at a 2006 conference, Ethan Zuckerman’s talk reminds us that there is no “One Great Grand History of the Internet,” but, rather, multiple histories, depending on one’s vantage point (and economic, cultural, social and many other factors).

Zuckerman is a leader and innovator of Internet studies. He’s a researcher with the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and, along with Rebecca MacKinnon, a founder of Global Voices Online, which they developed in 2005. Initially the group’s intent was to build an aggregator of blogs from around the world, specifically from the developing world. The project has since grown to a community of more than 300 bloggers and translators, providing links and access to blogs around the world, and serving as an important voice of citizen media.
