Our Literacy Project So Far...

The first thing our group wanted to do for our COVID-19 Time Capsule was to gain some buy in from families.

Our school has responded really well to virtual assemblies, and highly engaging videos, so we thought that’d be just the thing to get the word out. We made a silly,  but informational video asking families to submit their ideas on what the time capsule should look like. We provided a physical and electronic copy with an area to draw their idea, and list what materials were needed. We offered a raffle drawing as well, so if families entered an idea, they were entered to win some school swag (t-shirts, masks, etc).

We were overwhelmed with the amount of responses we received. So many awesome ideas with details, writing, and many of them partnered with their siblings to create their time capsule. We had around 100 templates returned. It’s been SO hard to sort through and choose just one.

The next part of our project will be asking families to submit stories (via flipgrid or in writing) about their year. Now that they know the Time Capsule is happening, hopefully they will be more inclined to participate when the time comes!
