I Wish my Teacher Knew

The past few days have been a learning experience. I’ve gotten to still learn about my students and they’ve gotten to get to know more about me. I know that even though we have been together for a while, there is still something that I might not know about them.

I decided to do a fun activity to get to know them a little bit more. I had them answer a question on Google Classroom that I posted asking them about how their day was going and if there was something they wished I knew about them. For the most part, they all said that they were

happy to be in my class. Hearing this really melted my heart as this week had not been the greatest week for me. They comments really made me realize why I choose to be an educator and continued to motivate me to be the best teacher for them.

However, this was only part of was I discovered. I also had one student really share more personal concerns with me. He too told me about how he was happy to be our class and told me a little bit marabout himself. He started telling me about different activity he enjoyed to do and how he missed his “real dad” as he mentioned. He said that he had a step dad and a real dad. This really helped me better understand his home life situation. I now know that I can be likely that he misses his dad and if he hadn’t share this information with me, I would’ve never know.

In conclusion, I think it is very important to get to know your students more as there’s is portably aways something that needs to be learned about each and every single student. I also think that having a activity in which you ask you students,’I wish my teacher knew..” is a great way to get to know your student better and build a stronger relationship with them.
