"I wish my teacher knew..."
How can it be November already and I still haven’t done the “I wish my teacher knew” writing prompt with my students? When we discussed this prompt in October, I thought, “Wow! What a great prompt! I need to use that for my writing into the day this next week.” But that next week had a different plan and I just never got around to it.
Although I did not use the prompt to get to know my students, I have used our daily writing prompts as an opportunity to get to know my students better. I have learned that my students LOVE the game Among Us, which I think is a step above the graphic Fortnight game they were playing, as well as sports, playing outside with their siblings, eating food, and helping their families. Every morning the students are given 15 minutes to tell me anything they want. We discuss birthdays, weekend plans, the new shoes they got in town, and when we will go back to school. My students tend to stay away from talking about Covid-19 and have, for the most part, accepted that this virtual learning is their new norm for a while.
I have already scheduled the “I wish my teacher knew” writing prompt for when we get back from Thanksgiving break on their Google Classroom. I am interested in learning more about what they wish I knew.
