Aisha Tyehimba is a newly retired District of Columbia Public Schools teacher, with over fifteen diverse years of experience in and out of the public school system. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of the District of Columbia and has focused her graduate studies in education as well. She is a D.C. Area Writing Project consultant and has also worked with the Children's Defense Fund through the Freedom Schools Movement. Aisha is the founder of SunRayzed, an organization committed to children's academic, social and emotional wholeness. She is also founder of Books For Brown Girls; a book club that explores self-esteem through literature with girls of color. She is passionate about cultivating and maintaining the mental, physical, and emotional health of women and girls.
