Youth Voices Summer Program – We Need Your Help!

Too often in school, students are told what and how to learn. We think learning happens best when youth are given more freedom to follow their own dreams, explore their own questions, and publish for their peers with their own voice using any media.

We’ve seen firsthand the results of this — youth empowerment, civic engagement, academic success, and sometimes new life direction.

Fifteen students from the Bronx. Five dedicated teachers. A summer of learning together that could change their lives — and change the way kids learn all across America. This summer the New York City Writing Project (NYCWP) at Lehman College, CUNY will host a free Youth Voices Summer Program from July 8 through 25, 2013.

TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, WE NEED YOUR HELP:

  1. We need your contributions to our crowdfunding campaign at http://incited.org/projects/youth-voices-summer-program-connected-learning-with-the-nyc-writing-project  With just 8 days left, we have a shortfall in our most minimal budget of $3000
  2. We have thrown our hats into the DML’s Digital Media and Learning Competition and there is a short period of public voting and commenting open now. Please vote for us here: http://dmlcompetition.net/project/youth-designed-open-badges-for-youth-voices. Even more important, please go make comments in support of our Youth-Designed Open Badge for Youth Voices.
  3. Spread the word about both of these. Please consider emailing friends, posting your support on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, on listservs and in other networks. We have an ambitious goal and need the support of all our friends this week!

Thank you!
