It's Open Education Week!

It's Open Education Week!

Open education is, at its core, about free and open sharing. Free, meaning no cost, and open, referring to the use of legal tools (open licenses like Creative Commons) that give everyone permission to reuse, modify, and share educational resources. Free and open sharing increases access to education and knowledge for anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Open Education Week (March 10-14, 2014) is a global event that seeks to raise awareness of free and open sharing in education and the benefits they bring to teachers and learners. Many great projects and events are being featured.

Here are a couple things I'm involved in this week:

  • On Teachers Teaching Teachers this week, Wed., March. 12 at 9pm Eastern, a group of us will be talking about open learning and open educational resources in K-12 education. We'll discuss the benefits and challenges of open resources, the new K-12 OER Community of Practice, and how online spaces like this and others might be used to support educators in opening up their practice. . Join us!
  • I am launching a K-12 OER Community of Practice. It's still very much a work in process, but we'd love to have you join the community and/or share your questions, comments, challenges, and successes.

Please join us in celebrating Open Education Week and spreading the word to others (#openeducationwk)!
